Supreme Court Questions Validity of FIR in Mohan Delkar Suicide Case

The Supreme Court of India questioned the maintainability of the FIR in the alleged abetment of the suicide of former MP Mohan Delkar, who died in 2021.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran asked whether humiliation and harassment, without direct instigation, can amount to abetment under Section 306 IPC.

The Court raised concerns about criminal liability being based purely on alleged administrative pressure or personal targeting by public officials. The matter has been adjourned to August 5 for further hearing.
