Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Seeking Transfer of Bodh Gaya Temple Control to Buddhists

The Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking the transfer of the management and control of the Mahabodhi Mahavihara Temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, exclusively to Buddhists.

The bench held that the plea filed under Article 32 of the Constitution was not maintainable and advised the petitioner to approach the Patna High Court instead.

The court granted liberty to file before the high court but dismissed the plea. As per the Bodh Gaya Temple Act, 1949 the temple continues to be managed under the authority of the Bihar government.
