Supreme Court Refuses to Quash Land-for-Jobs Case Against Lalu Prasad Yadav

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to quash the proceedings against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

The Bench permitted Yadav to raise his legal objections, including the applicability of Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, during the trial.

While the Court dispensed with his personal appearance before the trial court, it left the question of whether the legal protection applies retrospectively open for further adjudication.

The CBI alleges that during his tenure as Railway Minister, appointments were made in exchange for land parcels transferred to his family.
