The Supreme Court dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging key provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 (Act), stating that the petitioner should take the issue to Parliament instead.
The petitioner, Rupshi Singh, sought to challenge Sections 2, 3, and 4, 8A of the Act. During the hearing, the petitioner argued that these laws were invalid and adverse to men.
Recently, the Supreme Court dismissed another PIL seeking a review of the anti-dowry laws and domestic cruelty judgments, following the death of Atul Subhash, allegedly due to harassment by his wife.
However, the Court dismissed the petition, saying the making of law is up to the Parliament.
