Supreme Court Reserves Order on Stray Dog Removal in Delhi NCR, Cites Authorities' Inaction

The Supreme Court reserved its ruling on a plea to stay the controversial August 11 directive mandating the removal of stray dogs from Delhi-NCR.

A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and N.V. Anjaria criticised local authorities for their persistent inaction, which has exacerbated the stray dog crisis.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta highlighted alarming public health risks, including rabies and dog bites. Petitions opposing the removal order argue it contradicts humane management policies like the Animal Birth Control Rules and lacks infrastructure support.

The Court will determine next whether to pause implementation of the earlier order pending full consideration.
