Supreme Court Reviews PIL Seeking DNA Verification to Prevent Illegal Adoptions

The Supreme Court is examining a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking mandatory DNA verification for children before adoption to curb human trafficking and illegal adoptions.

The bench described the matter as a "very sensitive issue" and asked the petitioner to suggest a framework for institutional collaboration.

The PIL proposes a National DNA and Biometric Identification System to match rescued children with biological parents.

The Court also seeks the integration of child protection databases and the creation of a specialized task force to ensure time-bound investigation and rehabilitation of missing children.
