The Supreme Court said it remains “over-conscious” about the use of AI in courts and will not allow technology to influence judicial decision-making.
While hearing a plea on unregulated AI use in the justice system, CJI Surya Kant clarified that AI is used only as a support tool and never for forming conclusions.
The Bench acknowledged concerns about lower courts citing AI-generated, non-existent precedents but said such issues are addressed through judicial training and administrative measures, not judicial directions.
The petitioner was allowed to withdraw the plea.
