The Supreme Court has asked the Centre and Bar Council of India to respond to a PIL by Advocate Aaditya Gore seeking safeguards for lawyers against attacks and harassment.
The plea calls for specific rules under Section 7(d) of the Advocates Act to defend lawyers’ privileges and establish a clear grievance redressal system through Bar Councils. Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta have clubbed the matter with a related suo motu case involving senior advocates summoned by the ED.
The PIL underscores repeated violence against lawyers and notes that prior demands for reform have seen no effective action over more than a decade.
