The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Union Government, RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, National Savings Institute, EPFO, PFRDA, and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs on a PIL seeking the establishment of a centralised portal to track unclaimed financial assets and inactive bank accounts.
The petition, filed by activist Aakash Goel, flagged that over ₹3.5 lakh crore worth of unclaimed assets are spread across various institutions without any consolidation mechanism.
The Court has granted the regulators four weeks to file their responses.
