Supreme Court Seeks Centre’s Response on Including Haemophilia Under Disability Law

The Supreme Court issued notice to the Union Government on a petition seeking the inclusion of haemophilia under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

The plea contended that individuals with haemophilia face lifelong physical and functional challenges comparable to recognised disabilities and therefore deserve equal legal protection and welfare benefits.

The Bench agreed to examine whether the blood disorder qualifies as a specified disability under the Act.

The Court also noted that similar petitions challenging the exclusion of haemophilia patients are pending before multiple High Courts.
