The Supreme Court recently directed amicus curiae Siddhartha Dave to convene a meeting with the Centre, States and Union Territories on May 6 regarding utilisation of funds allocated for installation of CCTV cameras in police stations across the country.
A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta passed the direction in the ongoing suo motu matter concerning non-functional CCTVs in police stations.
The Court observed that responses from States should specifically address utilisation of funds.
The issue was raised after concerns emerged regarding uneven implementation despite financial support from the Central Government for CCTV infrastructure.
