The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Central government and the Ladakh UT administration following a habeas corpus petition filed by Gitanjali Angmo, wife of activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under the National Security Act.
A Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria directed that the government file its response after hearing arguments from Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, who challenged the legality of the detention, and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who said grounds of detention have been supplied to Wangchuk.
Wangchuk was arrested on September 26 in connection with protests demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh. He is currently lodged in Jodhpur Jail.
