Supreme Court Seeks Replies on Plea for Ban on Betting Platforms and Celebrity Endorsements

The Supreme Court issued notices to all states, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on a petition seeking a ban on betting applications and celebrity endorsements promoting them.

Notices were also sent to Google India, Apple India, and major betting platforms, including Dream 11, MPL, and A23 Games, with directions to respond within two weeks.

The court declined to pass interim directions, observing that it would prioritise a final hearing after responses are filed. The Court emphasised that interim orders could have broader repercussions. The matter is listed for hearing on August 18, 2025.
