The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Centre, NCERT, and six states, including Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, on a PIL seeking transgender-inclusive Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in school curricula.
The petition, filed by Class 12 student Kaavya Mukherjee Saha, highlighted the failure of NCERT and most State Councils of Educational Research and Training to comply with the Court’s directions in the NALSA case.
It called for the inclusion of gender identity and diversity in textbooks, citing violations of fundamental rights and state policy directives.
The plea demands scientifically accurate, age-appropriate, transgender-inclusive CSE across all Indian schools.
