Supreme Court Defers Hearing on West Bengal’s Doorstep Ration Scheme to January 15

The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearings of petitions challenging Calcutta High Court’s order striking down West Bengal's door-step ration delivery scheme, scheduling the matter for January 15, 2026.

Under this scheme, the State government delivers foodgrains through the public distribution system at the doorsteps of beneficiaries.

The cases will examine whether the state government overstepped its authority by creating a parallel distribution system to the National Food Security Act's existing public distribution framework.

In December 2021, another single judge of the Calcutta High Court, Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya, had upheld the scheme.
