The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Uttarakhand government and Public Service Commission over the exclusion of blind and locomotor-disabled candidates from the upcoming Judicial Services exam.
Terming the state’s stance “very bad,” the Court was hearing a plea by visually impaired candidate Sravya Sindhuri, who argued the exclusion violates the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and constitutional equality principles.
The Bench recalled its March 2025 judgment that struck down similar Madhya Pradesh rules, calling such exclusions a breach of fundamental rights.
The State has been asked to respond before exams begin on August 31.
