The Supreme Court, led by the Chief Justice of India, strongly condemned the attack on judicial officers in West Bengal, stating that any assault on judges is an assault on the Court itself.
The remarks came after seven judicial officers were surrounded and held hostage for hours during electoral roll revision duties in Malda.
The Court termed the incident a “brazen attempt” to intimidate the judiciary and a direct challenge to its authority.
It also criticised the State administration for failure to protect officials and directed a probe by central agencies like the CBI or NIA, while ensuring enhanced security for judicial officers.
