The Supreme Court seeks a response from the Centre on whether a social media post can be taken down without hearing its owner.
Sr. Adv. Indira Jaising, representing the petitioner, argued that removing content without prior notice violates natural justice.
The petition, filed by the Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC), highlights concerns over platforms like X taking down posts based on government directives without informing users.
The Court suggested that identifiable individuals should receive notice, while intermediaries should be informed if the user is unidentifiable.
Jaising also noted that the law mandates prior notice for objectionable posts. The Centre has been directed to respond to the petition.
