The Supreme Court has stayed the Allahabad High Court’s order prohibiting Ram Lila performances inside the playground of a school in Tundla, Uttar Pradesh.
A Bench comprising Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan, and N Kotiswar Singh permitted the festivities to continue on condition that children’s access to play or sports is not obstructed.
The High Court had intervened following claims of misuse of school land and installation of interlocking tiles to permanently convert it for events.
The Supreme Court noted that the Ram Lila has been held at this site for around 100 years and questioned the delay in seeking judicial relief.
