The Supreme Court stayed a Telangana High Court order requiring the state government to notify movie ticket price hikes 90 days before a film's release.
The Bench issued notice on a plea by Mythri Movie Makers, which argued the directive was impractical and would disrupt film releases state-wide.
The High Court originally mandated the advance notice to allow stakeholders time to challenge price revisions under the Telangana Cinemas Regulation Act, 1955. The petitioner contended that the requirement severely impacts the industry’s operational flexibility.
The stay restores the existing price approval mechanism until further deliberation.
