Supreme Court Suspends Rape Convict’s Sentence as Couple Agrees to Marry

The Supreme Court suspended the sentence of a man convicted under Sections 376(2)(n) and 417 IPC for repeated rape and cheating on the false promise of marriage, after both he and the victim expressed willingness to marry.

The couple, who met on Facebook, were asked to exchange flowers in court. The man was directed to return to jail and will be produced before the sessions court, which shall release him on bail with appropriate conditions.

As per the FIR, it was alleged that each time, he assured the girl that he would marry her. When she eventually asked him to marry her, he refused, saying that his mother did not agree.

The matter is now listed for July 25.
