The Supreme Court has suspended the sentence of Kiran Kumar, who was convicted in the dowry-related death of his wife, Vismaya.
The case relates to the death of Vismaya, a 22-year-old Ayurveda medical student, in 2021, within a year of her marriage.
In 2022, a Kerala trial court found Kumar guilty under Sections 304B (dowry death), 498A (cruelty), 306 (abetment of suicide) IPC, and Dowry Prohibition Act provisions, sentencing him to 10 years in prison and a fine of 12.5 Lakh.
The Kerala High Court had earlier denied his plea to suspend the sentence. Recently, the Supreme Court allowed Kumar’s appeal and granted him bail, pending the outcome of his appeal before the High Court.
