Supreme Court Tells Delhi High Court: No Judge-Specific Records of Misconduct Allegations Maintained

The Supreme Court of India informed the Delhi High Court that it does not maintain judge-specific records regarding allegations of corruption or misconduct.

During a hearing on an RTI plea by a journalist, the Court's counsel stated that collating such data would involve a "fishing and roving inquiry" and an unsustainable diversion of resources.

While the Court previously provided Parliament with the total number of complaints received against the judiciary, it argued that specific details are exempt under Section 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act.

The High Court has now sought a mechanism to balance public transparency with the protection of judicial reputations.
