Supreme Court to Decide If Graduates of 3 year LL.B Correspondence Courses Can Become Lawyer

  • Case Name: STS Gladies v. Bar Council of India and Another
  • Judge(s): Justice Vikram Nath and Justice PB Varale
  • Advocate(s): Gaurav Kumar, Agrim Tandon and others

The SC has agreed to examine whether a person can be denied enrolment as an advocate if they obtained their law degree through a correspondence course.

The issue arose from an appeal challenging the Telangana High Court decision, which rejected STS Gladies request for enrolment with the Bar Council of Telangana citing previous rulings such as M. Naveen Kumar v. State of Telangana .

Gladies then approached the SC, which issued a notice on her appeal and sought responses from both the Bar Council of Telangana and the BCI within four weeks.
