The Supreme Court will examine whether officers of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) can be considered "public servants" under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Court was hearing a petition that challenged the Telangana High Court's refusal to quash FIRs against HCA officials. The Court had found a prima facie case, noting that the HCA received government land on a subsidised lease.
The HCA officials argue they are not public servants as the association is not a "State" under Article 12 of the Constitution.
However, the Telangana High Court had ruled that the HCA performs a "public function" and thus its office bearers could be prosecuted.
