Supreme Court to Examine if PSC Rules Prevail Over RTI Act on Answer Sheet Disclosure

The Supreme Court is set to determine whether State Public Service Commissions (PSCs) can regulate the timing of information disclosure despite the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

A bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Manmohan stayed an Uttarakhand High Court judgment that allowed candidates to inspect answer sheets during an ongoing recruitment process.

The Uttarakhand PSC argued that its rules only permit disclosure after final results to prevent litigation and procedural disruptions.

The High Court had previously ruled that answer scripts are "information" under the RTI Act, which should override inconsistent commission rules.
