The Supreme Court will hear petitions on May 20 seeking interim relief against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
The court will consider whether to grant a stay on key issues, including waqf by user, nomination of non-Muslims to Waqf bodies, and identification of government land as waqf.
The petitions claim the amendment discriminates against Muslims, while several BJP-ruled States support the law, citing administrative concerns. The Centre has assured the Court it will not enforce the law until the hearing.
