The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea challenging the Madras High Court’s interim order barring the use of living persons’ names, former Chief Ministers’ photos, or political party symbols in government welfare scheme advertisements.
The Madras High Court’s order, issued on July 31, cited violations of Supreme Court guidelines and the 2014 Government Advertisement Guidelines.
The appeal, mentioned before Chief Justice BR Gavai, argued that such restrictions could hinder social welfare schemes. The matter is listed for hearing on August 6.
