The Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea challenging the Uttar Pradesh government’s move to merge 105 primary schools with low student numbers.
Advocate Pradeep Yadav, appearing for petitioner Taiyyab Khan Salmani, argued that the June 16 government order would shut down many schools, forcing thousands of students to travel long distances
The petition claims this violates Article 21A of the Constitution and the Right to Education Act, 2009, particularly Rule 4, which mandates setting up primary schools within one kilometre of habitations with at least 300 residents. The matter will be heard next week.
