The Supreme Court will hear a plea next week questioning the appointment of Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta, alleging violations of the Prakash Singh case judgment on police reforms.
The petition, filed by social activists, argues that the appointment process lacked transparency and did not follow the Court’s mandatory guidelines.
Senior Advocate Anjana Prakash mentioned the matter before a bench led by CJI BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran. The Court has issued notice and will examine whether proper procedure was followed in selecting the state’s top police officer.
