The Court has issued notice on an interlocutory application filed by Advocate Yogamaya in her writ petition before the Supreme Court.
The applicant seeks time-bound mechanisms such as reservation quotas or affirmative safeguards to ensure adequate representation of women across all five election phases scheduled from January to April 2026.
The main petition also seeks an interpretation of Section 3(2)(b) of the Advocates Act to mandate proportional representation for historically underrepresented groups, including women. The Court has directed responses from the Bar Council of India and all State Bar Councils.
The Supreme Court will hear the plea on December 1, seeking meaningful representation of women in the upcoming State Bar Council elections.
