The Supreme Court reserved its order on pleas seeking to stay the two-judge bench’s August 11 directive to remove all stray dogs from Delhi-NCR to shelters.
A three-judge bench, led by Justice Vikram Nath, took over the case after lawyers highlighted conflicts with prior orders.
The two-judge bench had ordered authorities to create dog shelters for 5,000 dogs within 6-8 weeks and mandated sterilisation, immunisation, and no release of captured dogs back into public areas.
The Court emphasised immediate action, helpline creation for dog bites, vaccine availability, and warned against obstruction, threatening contempt proceedings to ensure compliance and safeguard public health. The SC will pronounce its verdict tomorrow.
