Supreme Court: Unauthorized Peaceful Possession is Also Land Grabbing Under Andhra Pradesh Law

The Supreme Court has held that even peaceful but unauthorized occupation of land qualifies as "land grabbing" under the Andhra Pradesh Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act.

The case involved a man who mistakenly built on land in Survey No. 9 despite purchasing land in Survey No. 10. The Court clarified that physical force or violence is not necessary to prove land grabbing—mere unlawful possession with intent to occupy suffices.

The Court upheld the Andhra Pradesh High Court's ruling, reinforcing that a lack of title or legal authority renders such occupation illegal under the Act.
