Supreme Court Upholds ₹1 Lakh Cost on Odisha PSC for Not Evaluating Exam Answer

The Supreme Court has upheld a ₹1 lakh cost imposed on the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) for failing to evaluate a judicial service candidate’s answer in the 2022 exam.

A bench led by Justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Vijay Bishnoi criticized OPSC’s “haphazard scrutiny” and refused to set aside the High Court’s order.

The Court clarified that the penalty applies only to this specific case.

The case was filed by candidate Jyotirmayee Dutta, who discovered that her answer to a 12.5-mark question had been left unevaluated and challenged her result.
