The Supreme Court has upheld ISKCON Bangalore’s Independent legal identity under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, confirming its ownership of the Hare Krishna Temple and educational complex in Bengaluru.
This decision comes as a significant reversal of a 2011 Karnataka High Court judgment that had ruled in favour of ISKCON Mumbai.
ISKCON Mumbai had claimed the Bengaluru unit was merely its branch, asserting ownership over the temple and property.
However, the Supreme Court upheld the trial court’s earlier decision, acknowledging ISKCON Bangalore as a distinct legal entity and maintaining the permanent injunction against ISKCON Mumbai from interfering with the Bengaluru unit’s operations or property.
