Doctors Seek Supreme Court Suo Motu Action & ₹50 Lakh Interim Relief After Air India Flight Crash

Two doctors have filed a letter petition before the Supreme Court seeking suo motu action following the Air India Flight AI‑171 crash in Ahmedabad, which killed 241 onboard and 38 on the ground, including several resident doctors at BJ Medical College.

They urged the Court to order the government to pay ₹50 lakh interim compensation to each victim’s family and to form an expert committee to determine final compensation, following principles from the Supreme Court’s Triveni Kodkany judgment on the 2010 Mangalore crash.

The petition also called for a rapid, transparent investigation into the crash, prompt settlement by Air India, and rehabilitation measures like priority employment for eligible dependents.
