
The Supreme Court warned all State Bar Councils to comply with its directive prohibiting the collection of enrolment fees beyond the prescribed ₹750.
The Bench reiterated that enrolment charges must strictly adhere to Section 24 of the Advocates Act, 1961.
The warning arose from a contempt plea filed by a law graduate who was asked to pay an additional ₹4,650 under miscellaneous heads and was denied the return of her original documents until payment.
The Court emphasised that non-compliance with its earlier order would invite strict consequences for the Councils
