Supreme Court Warns Delhi Authorities Over Solid Waste Crisis, Warns Stoppage Of New Constructions

The Supreme Court criticised the Centre and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for their insufficient efforts to manage untreated solid waste in Delhi, warning of potential construction bans.

During a hearing in the MC Mehta case on air pollution, the bench expressed shock over MCD's affidavit, which promised waste management by December 2027 but ignored 3,000 tons of daily untreated waste.

The bench also questioned the Union's inaction, warning of strict orders, including halting new constructions.

The Court demanded detailed plans, criticized poor coordination, and threatened drastic measures to address worsening pollution. The matter resumes on January 27, 2025.
