Review Petition Filed in Supreme Court Challenging 3‑Year Practice Mandate for Judicial Exams

The Supreme Court has received a review petition challenging its May 20 judgment that reinstated the requirement of three years’ legal practice as a prerequisite for Civil Judge (Junior Division) recruitment.

Advocate  Chandra Sen Yadav argues the ruling lacked empirical data, ignored key recommendations by the Shetty Commission, and unfairly penalises fresh law graduates, violating Articles 14 and 16.

The petition seeks deferment of the rule until 2027 to prevent hardship to batches who prepared under previous criteria and contends the Court overstepped its role by universally amending eligibility without legislative backing.

The plea seeks a reconsideration of the ruling to ensure that judicial appointments remain inclusive and merit-based for all law graduates.
