The Telangana High Court has ruled that illicitly distilled liquor (IDL) poses a grave public threat, beyond a mere law and order issue.
A bench dismissed a habeas corpus plea challenging the preventive detention of a repeat IDL offender under Section 3 of the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1986.
The Court highlighted the dangers of hooch tragedies, especially in poor communities, and held that such activities seriously endanger public health and safety. It upheld the detention as justified in the larger interest of society.
