The Telangana Director of School Education has issued fresh guidelines limiting the blanket application of Section 12(1)(C) of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which mandates a 25% reservation for disadvantaged and economically weaker students in private unaided non-minority schools.
The quota will now apply only where no government or local body school is available within a one-kilometre radius or existing schools are at capacity.
The guidelines specify 50 rural habitations and 46 urban colonies for this provision.
Admissions under this scheme will be permitted from the next academic year, emphasising that private admissions are supplementary, not primary, to public schooling.
