The Karnataka High Court has directed bike taxi aggregators, including Rapido, Uber, and Ola, to cease operations in the state within six weeks.
The court emphasized that these services cannot operate without proper regulations under Section 93 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The court dismissed petitions from the aggregators seeking legal recognition and registration of their services. The state government has been granted three months to establish appropriate guidelines.
This ruling follows a 2019 expert committee report highlighting concerns about bike taxis' impact on traffic and safety.
