The Supreme Court granted anticipatory bail to a London-based NRI accused of rape by his former divorce lawyer.
The matter arose when a London-based IT professional was booked for rape on an alleged false promise of marriage by a lawyer who earlier represented him in a divorce case.
Setting aside that order, the Supreme Court directed that he be released on bail in the event of arrest, subject to furnishing ₹25,000 in cash security with two sureties and cooperating fully with the investigation.
The Court also ordered that coercive steps, including a Lookout Circular, Blue Corner Notice, and Proclaimed Offender proceedings, remain in abeyance. The appeal was allowed.
