India Accused of Systematic Deportation of Bengali Muslims Amid Rising Citizenship Scrutiny

Since May 2025, Indian authorities have reportedly expelled hundreds of ethnic Bengali Muslims, many believed to be Indian citizens, to Bangladesh without legal proceedings.

People were detained, harassed, and in some cases, forcibly pushed across the border at gunpoint. Many had valid documents or pending citizenship appeals, but were still expelled. Rohingya refugees were also forced out, including being set adrift at sea.

These actions violate Indian and international laws and reflect a broader pattern of discrimination against Muslims.

Human rights groups and activists have condemned the expulsions as unlawful, dangerous, and politically motivated. Families remain separated and without recourse.
