TRAI Strengthens Regulations to Curb Spam Calls and Unsolicited Messages

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has amended the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018, introducing stricter measures to combat spam calls and unsolicited commercial communication (UCC).

Under the new rules, customers can now file complaints within seven days of receiving spam, instead three-days.

Additionally, telecom providers must now act against UCC from unregistered senders within five days, instead of 30 days.

The threshold for action against spam callers has also been lowered to five complaints in ten days, instead of ten complaints in seven days.

TRAI has blacklisted over 1,150 entities and disconnected 18.8 lakh telecom resources, significantly reducing UCC complaints.
