The Supreme Court granted bail to Aadya Prasad Tiwari, an accused in the Mahant Narendra Giri murder case, setting aside an order of the Allahabad High Court that had denied him relief.
The Court noted that the trial was likely to take considerable time, as only three out of nearly 150 proposed witnesses had been examined so far.
Observing that Tiwari did not appear to be the principal accused, the Court held that continued detention pending trial was not necessary.
Bail was granted subject to conditions to ensure his presence and non-interference with the trial.
