UGC Bars NALSAR from Offering Open and Distance Learning Law Programmes

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has banned NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad from offering Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes in law.

NALSAR's applications for ODL postgraduate programmes were twice rejected for violating 2(z) of UGC (ODL Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020, which prohibit ODL programmes in law.

Despite this, NALSAR advertised admissions for 2023-24 without a required No-Objection Certificate from the Bar Council of India.

Following a show-cause notice, the UGC's Complaint Redressal Committee recommended the ban, but no relief guidance was provided for enrolled students. NALSAR may reapply after the debarment period.
