UGC, KeLSA Submit Suggestions to Kerala High Court on Anti-Ragging Law Reforms in Kerala High Court

The UGC and Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KeLSA) have submitted their suggestions to the Kerala High Court on proposed amendments to the Anti-Ragging Act and Rules.

The proposals include fixed timelines for inquiry decisions, extending coverage to autonomous colleges and hostels, and redefining “deemed abetment” of ragging. KeLSA also recommended removing the term “fresher” to ensure equal protection for all students.

The case arises from a PIL filed after a student’s death due to alleged ragging. The drafting committee is expected to take two months to finalise its report. The Court will review the case again after that.
