Haryana Notifies Gambling Ban, Targets Opinion Trading Apps

The Haryana government has enforced the Prevention of Public Gambling Act, 2025, effective from May 21, banning betting on sports, elections, and match-fixing.

This law impacts opinion trading platforms like Probo and SportsBaazi, though Probo remains operational. MPL Opinio has ceased operations in the state.

A PIL in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeks action against such platforms, alleging they promote illegal betting under the guise of opinion trading. The court has issued notices to the Centre, SEBI, and RBI.

SEBI clarified it doesn't regulate these apps, leaving regulatory responsibility to state authorities.
