UP Govt Opposes PIL on Mob Lynching; Jamiat Ulema Seeks Enforcement of SC Directives On Mob Lynching In State

The Uttar Pradesh Government has opposed a Criminal PIL filed by Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind before the Allahabad High Court, seeking enforcement of the Supreme Court 2018 guidelines from Tehseen S. Poonawalla v. Union of India (2018) to prevent mob lynching.

The plea cites repeated mob violence incidents, including a May 2025 Aligarh case. It alleges the State failed to implement preventive and punitive steps under Para 40(A) and 40(C) of the SC ruling and didn’t create a compensation scheme under Section 357A CrPC.

The PIL demands an SIT probe, appointment of nodal officers, official data on lynchings, and ₹15 lakh compensation for victims. Hearing resumes on July 15.
